Dental implants have become a popular and effective solution for people who have lost one or more teeth due to injury, decay, or periodontal disease.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, typically made of titanium, placed into the jawbone to support prosthetic teeth. These implants act as anchors for dental prostheses, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures, which are custom-made to match the appearance and function of your natural teeth.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

There are numerous benefits associated with dental implants, including:

Improved aesthetics

Dental implants look and feel like your natural teeth, helping to restore your smile and enhance your self-confidence.

Enhanced function

Implants provide a stable foundation for prosthetic teeth, improving chewing efficiency and speech clarity.

Bone preservation

Dental implants paired with bone grafting when necessary, are not only a solution for missing teeth but also play a crucial role in preventing bone resorption, which occurs when teeth are lost. By mimicking natural teeth and promoting jawbone stimulation, dental implants help maintain the integrity and health of your jawbone over time.

Durability

With proper care, dental implants can last for decades or even a lifetime.

The dental implant procedure

Before the implant surgery, our dentist will perform a thorough evaluation, which may include X-rays, CT scans, and dental impressions, to plan the procedure accurately. The surgery itself consists of several steps:

Anesthesia

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the surgical site.

Incision

Your dental professional will create a small gum tissue incision exposing the underlying jawbone.

Drilling

A small hole is carefully drilled into the jawbone to accommodate the implant.
Implant placement: The titanium implant is inserted into the hole and secured.

Abutment attachment

Once osseointegration is complete, a small abutment is attached to the implant.

Prosthetic tooth placement

The dental prosthesis (crown, bridge, or denture) is attached to the abutment.

Implant placement

The titanium implant is inserted into the hole and secured.

Healing

The gum tissue is sutured around the implant, and the healing begins. This may take several months, during which the implant will fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Patients with healthy gums and enough jawbone tissue are ideal candidates for dental implants. To determine your candidacy, our expert dentist will:

  • Conduct an in-depth assessment of your mouth's health
  • Take X-rays or scans of your jawbone and teeth
  • Ask about any existing medical conditions or medications that could affect the procedure's success

At ConfiDental Beverly Hills, our lead dentist has extensive experience performing dental implant procedures and can help you decide whether implants, bone grafting,  or another dental procedure is right for you.

What is the recovery for dental implants?

You may experience mild discomfort after dental implant surgery for a few days. To help manage your symptoms:

  • You can use an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen
  • You can also apply ice packs to the area for 20 minutes at a time
  • You may be asked to rinse with a saltwater solution to keep the site disinfected
  • After performing many dental implant procedures, we have successfully helped many patients through an uncomplicated recovery.
